Boswell’s Life of Samuel Johnson was originally published in 1791 to great acclaim. This Folio Society edition published in 1968 is edited and has an introduction by Rodney Shewan.
Note: This copy one of two hundred in full red morocco and offered by Folio Society as an alternative binding to the standard edition.
Hardback – two volumes. Full red leather bindings with gilt title and raised bands to spine; marbled endpapers; head and tail bands; gilt to top edge of age-block. In red buckram covered slipcase. pp [2] blank, [1-7], 8-568, [2] blank; [2] blank, [1-9], 10-682, [4] blank; plus b/w frontispieces and illustrations. Size: 10 x 6.25 inches approx. (252mm x 160mm).
Some light staining, fading, and shelf wear marks to slipcase; cloth bubbling in places. Leather lightly sunned to spines, a little rubbed and marked in places. Pages appear very clean throughout.
Overall, light wear but otherwise nice, clean copies in slipcase – a handsome set indeed
