Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland
by Lewis Carroll with illustrations by John Tenniel
Macmillan and Co. Limited, 1932
The children’s classic and perennial favourite was originally published by Macmillan in 1866 [1865] with many printings and editions since then.
This copy being the 1932 Centenary Edition, essentially a reprint of Macmillan’s 1907 Miniature Edition [260]* but with an added preface by Hugh Walpole added and bound in green cloth rather than the usual red.
Newspaper clippings from the The Daily Sketch and The Times, dated 17.11.34 in ink, reporting the death at 82 of Alice Liddell are pasted in.
Hardback. Publisher’s green cloth with gilt title to spine and gilt decoration and blind rules to upper board. pp [i]-xv, [xvi-xxii], [1]-200, [201-202], [2] publisher’s list, including b/w illustrations, plus b/w frontispiece. Size: 6 x 4 inches approx. (156mm x 102mm).
Cloth a touch rubbed to extremities; lightly knocked to tail of spine; lightly sunned to lower board. Newspaper clippings pasted to front endpaper and next pages, pencilled name and date partially erased to upper corner of front free endpaper; light foxing to endpapers but generally pages very clean throughout.
Overall, a particularly nice, clean copy – very attractive.
