Ayesha: The Return of She
H. Rider Haggard
Ward, Lock & Co. Limited, [No Date] circa 1930s*
‘Ayesha: The Return of She’ was originally published as a monthly serial in Windsor Magazine (December 1904 – October 1905), subsequently appearing as a book from the publishers Ward, Lock & Co. on 6th October 1905.
This copy a later reprint and No. 4 in the ‘Copyright Novels’ series; the dustwrapper with attractive artwork to front panel and an Art Deco styled spine. The art to front appears to be a re-worked and coloured version of the frontispiece illustration by Maurice Greiffenhagen from the 1905 edition.
Hardback. Publisher’s red faux-cloth with titles and decoration in black to spine and front board. In a dustwrapper with price 1/- NET (One Shilling) to spine. 317pp. Size: 6.75 x 4.75 inches approx. (173mm x 120mm).
Light wear and rubbing to dustwrapper; a little marked and foxed in places, dusty. Light shelf wear to board edges and spine ends. Endpapers foxed and toned, some offsetting; bubbling to rear endpaper; pages age toned throughout with some occasional foxing otherwise generally clean; edges of page-block spotted and dusty with some encroachment onto margins.
Overall, light wear but otherwise a nicely preserved copy – quite lovely.
