Lost Horizon

James Hilton
Macmillan London Ltd, reprint 1972

James Hilton’s famous novel of finding the utopian Shangri-La high in the Himalayas. Made into an equally famous film by Frank Capra (1937) starring Ronald Coleman and Jane Wyatt, and less famously as a film musical (1973) starring Peter Finch, Liv Ullman and George Kennedy, with music by Burt Bacharach.

Originally published in 1933 and being constantly in print since then. This copy a 1972 reprint with an attractive dustwrapper design by Virginia Smith.

Winner of the 1934 Hawthornden Prize.

Hardback in price-clipped dustwrapper. pp [4], 281, [3] blank. Size: 7.5 x 5 inches approx. (191mm x 126mm).

Dustwrapper rubbed and worn to extremities and folds, especially spine ends and corner tips; a small patch of surface damage to rear flap with some loss of text; tanning and offsetting to verso. Spine ends lightly turned-in and rubbed, light bruise to lower corner of front board, but generally covers clean. A new endpaper to front; the rear endpaper a little marked, some age toninf and offsetting, some indentations that have transfered to last few pages; pages appear clean throughout.

Overall, showing light wear but otherwise a nice, clean copy – attractive.
