Rubáiyát of Omar Khayyám
(foreword by A.E.S.), illustrations and decorations by Willy Pogány
George Harrap & Co. Ltd, [No Date] circa 1920s*
A lovely little pocket-sized Rubáiyát with four tipped-in colour plates.
The Willy Pogány illustrated Rubáiyát was first published by Harrap in 1909 with twenty-four plates (Ambrose [69]). Many subsequent editions and printings with a variable number of illustrations, bindings and sizes published over the following decades.
Hardback. Publisher’s red-orange cloth with title to spine and decoration to front board, in a price-clipped dustwrapper with repeated design to front panel and spine. 95pp including line drawings/decoration plus four colour plates. Size: 5 x 3.5 inches approx. (128mm x 89mm).
Dustwrapper lightly rubbed and worn; a touch dusty/grubby; neatly clipped to all corners; slightly short but does appear original, ie. no signs of being trimmed. Cloth lightly worn to extremities otherwise clean and bright. Light foxing/spotting to endpapers.
Overall, a nicely preserved copy – lovely.
