The 13th Hour

Sydney Horler
London: The Readers Library Publishing Company Ltd, [1st edition, 1928]*

The Readers Library published affordable editions of popular fiction in the period 1924-35, cheaply produced but very attractive with their wrap-round dustwrapper artwork.

A crime thriller and novelisation from popular author Sydney Horler (1888-1954) of the 1927 MGM silent film “The Thirteenth Hour” starring Lionel Barrymore and Jacquelin Gadson. With eight pages of scenes from the film.

From the Editor’s Note – “…a full complement of thrills […] which has never before appeared in book form”.

Hardback in dustwrapper. 250pp plus [8]pp b/w plates. Size: 6.75 x 4.25 inches approx. (170mm x 105mm).

Dustwrapper rubbed and worn to extremities and folds; wear and small surface loss to spine ends, especially to tail; a few short tears to top and bottom edges; dusty and spotted/foxed to flaps; foxing/spotting visible to verso. Light shelf and handling wear to covers; gilt dulled to spine. Endpapers foxed and yellowed; age-toning to pages but generally very clean throughout; foxing/spotting to edges of page-block with some encroachment onto margins.

Nonetheless, showing wear but otherwise a nicely preserved copy – presenting well in its dustwrapper.
