The children’s literature classic was originally published in 1937 by George Allen & Unwin to great success and with many subsequent printings. This copy is essentially the publisher’s own 1976 De Luxe edition re-badged for Folio Society with a shared imprint on the title page.
Note: Folio published their own edition in 1979 with illustrations by Eric Fraser [ref. 456 Folio 75]
Hardback. Publisher’s (FS) brown leather spine over cloth boards; gilt title and design to spine, gilt design to upper board; map endpapers; tinted pale brown to top edge of page-block. In a slipcase with blue papered ends, and pale brown textured paper sides. pp [11], 12-286, [2] blank, plus colour plates. Size: 9 x 6 inches approx. (228mm x 148mm).
Slipcase somewhat rubbed and shelfworn but presenting very well. Leather showing some scuffing; lightly knocked and worn to tail of spine. Cloth clean and bright; square corners to boards. Occasional foxing or dustiness but generally pages very clean throughout.
Overall, light wear but otherwise a nice, clean copy.
