The Long Walk

Slavomir Rawicz
The Book Society Ltd in association with Constable and Company Ltd, 1st editon April 1956

The classic and best-selling tale of escape and survival. Signed to the title page by the author Slavomir Rawicz.

Doubts to the truthfulness of the trek were raised by contemporary reviews – “One thing is puzzling: whether the story is a muddled and hazy reconstruction of an actual occurrence, or mere fiction” (H. Richardson, The Himalayan Journal Vol. 20, 1957) – doubts that haven’t lessened in the subsequent years.

Published by The Book Society concurrently with Constable’s own edition bearing their imprint, both editions being first publication.

Hardback in dustwrapper. pp [4], [1]-239, [240-241], [3] blank, including two map illustrations. Size: 8.5 x 5.75 inches approx. (220mm x 143mm).

Dustwrapper lightly worn and rubbed to extremities; a touch dusty and marked; spotting/foxing to verso. Spine and boards clean and bright; light shelf wear to spine-ends and board corner tips. Bookplate to front free endpaper; occasional foxing and one page gathering more age-toned than the others but generally clean throughout; edges of page-block spotted.

Overall, light wear but otherwise a nice, clean copy.
