Treasure Island

Robert Louis Stevenson
White’s Books, 1st edition 2008

The classic adventure story of pirates, the high seas and black spots by Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-94) was originally serialised in the magazine ‘Young Folks’ (1881-2), then published in book form by Cassell (1883).

This edition is Number 2 in a short series of classic titles from London publishers White’s Books, this title featuring a binding and endpaper design by Stanley Donwood.

Hardback. Publisher’s blue cloth with illustration in gilt and shades of blue; title to spine and upper board; illustrated endpapers repeating binding design; top edge of page-block stained black; sewn-in ribbon pagemarker. pp [xii], [1]-241, [3] blank, including map illustration. Size: 9.5 x 6.5 inches approx. (240mm x 162mm).

Cloth lightly rubbed and marked in places; a touch dulled to spine. Top edge staining has bled into margins of endpapers and adjacent pages however I’m assuming that is as usual; fore-edge of page-block a little marked.

Overall, light wear but otherwise remaining a nice, clean copy – attractive.
