British Woodland Trees
H. L. Edlin
B. T. Batsford Ltd, 1st edition 1944
A good study by forester Herbert L. Edlin, author of ‘Woodland Crafts in Britain’ (Batsford, 1949) and the New Naturalist title ‘Trees, Woods and Man’ (Collins, 1956).
Presented in a rather nice half-leather binding – and unfortunately no bindery is credited.
Hardback. A green half-leather over pale-green cloth boards; gilt title and decoration spine, raised bands; gilt rules to boards; pale-green endpapers. pp ix, 182, including b/w line drawings, plus b/w plates and a colour frontispiece. Size: 8.5 x 5.5 inches approx. (217mm x 141mm).
Leather a little worn and rubbed to extremities; some sunning/fading, especially to spine. Endpapers foxed and with offsetting to margins mirroring leather on boards; occasional foxing or dustiness but generally pages clean throughout; spotting to edges of page-block with some encroachment onto margins; a musty odour but not unpleasant.
Overall, showing some wear from shelf and age but otherwise a nice, clean copy – a handsome binding.
