King Solomon’s Mines
H. Rider Haggard
London: The Readers Library Publishing Company Ltd, circa 1927
The Readers Library published affordable editions of popular fiction in the period 1924-35, cheaply produced but very attractive with their wrap-round dustwrapper artwork.
Lovely dustwrapper art by A. Morrow [Albert Morrow (1863-1927)*].
Hardback. Publisher’s red cloth with gilt title and decoration to spine and front board, in a dustwrapper. 253pp. Size: 6.5 x 4.25 inches approx. (170mm x 105mm).
Dustwrapper rubbed and worn, especially to spine ends, corner tips and folds; a few short edge tears with small loss; dusty and marked. Covers dusty and with light shelf wear; gilt dulled, especially to spine; pulled and small split to tail of spine/front hinge juncture. A name in ink to front paste-down; pages age tanned and dusty throughout but otherwise appear clean; a break in page-block at pages 176/177 but otherwise pages tight.
Overall, showing some wear but otherwise remaining a reasonably nice, clean copy – attractive in its dustwrapper.
