Autobiographical novel and one of Borrow’s most well known works, originally published 1851 by John Murray.
This edition with illustrations by Edmund Joseph Sullivan (1869-1933) was first published 1896 in “Macmillan’s Illustrated Standard Novels” series; reprints followed in 1900 and 1914.
Hardback. Publisher’s full leather binding in blue-touquoise, with gilt title and decoration to spine and front board; decorative endpapers; gilt to top edge of page-block. pp xliii, 589, including b/w illustrations. Size: 7.75 x 5.25 inches approx. (198mm x 132mm).
Leather rubbed and worn to spine ends and corner tips; sunned/faded to spine. Foxed to preliminaries and final few pages; foxed/spotted to edges of page-block with some encroachment onto margins but generally pages clean thoughout.
Overall, showing some light wear from shelf and age but otherwise an attractive copy – very presentable.
