Rubáiyát of Omar Khayyám

rendered into English verse by Edward Fitzgerald
edited by George F. Maine, illustrated by Robert Stewart Sherriffs
London and Glasgow: Collins, reprint 1961

An attractive leather edition of the Robert Stewart Sherriffs illustrated Rubáiyát, nicely presented in a box which is labelled Khorasan Edition to one end.

Hardback. Publisher’s full blue leather binding with red leather labels; gilt titles and decoration to spine and upper board; page-block with all edges gilt; sewn-in ribbon pagemarker. Presented in a lidded box. 224pp plus colour plates. Size: 9.5 x 7 inches approx. (240mm x 178mm).

Light wear and rubbing to box; label to end tanned and chipped. Original plastic protective wrap chipped and torn to edges, with small loss. Light rubbing to leather at extremities. An untidy inscription in ink to front free endpaper; light foxing to endpapers but generally pages very clean throughout.

Overall, a particularly nice copy – quite lovely – and unusual to find this edition without fading to spine or with leather decay.
