Tales From Shakspeare

by Charles and Mary Lamb, edited with an introduction by Alfred Ainger
Macmillan and Co. Limited, reprint 1908

A lovely fine leather binding; bears the bookbinder ticket of James Atkinson, Ulverston to inside rear board. However, the binding is so similiar in style and workmanship to this copy of Hereward the Wake (Macmillan, 1910), the label may be covering the binder’s stamp of ‘E.S.A. LONDON’…

Hardback. Full leather binding in deep blue; gilt title and decoration to spine; raised bands; gilt decoration to boards, emblem of Ulverston Victoria Grammar School to front; gilt decoration to board edges; blind stamped decoration to inner margins of boards; page-block with all edges marbled; marbled endpapers. pp xviii, [2], 368. Size: 6.75 x 4.75 inches approx. (174mm x 121mm).

A touch of sunning/fading to spine; minor wear and rubbing to binding. Prize label affixed to front pastedown; occasional foxing but generally pages very clean throughout.

Overall, a nice, clean copy – quite lovely.
