A lovely binding by Riviere & Son; signed to bottom edge of front free endpaper verso.
Hardback. Blue half-leather over pale blue cloth boards; gilt title and decoration to spine; raised bands to spine; gilt rules to boards; page-block with top edge gilt; marbled endpapers. 784pp plus portrait frontispiece. Size: 7.5 x 5.25 inches approx. (194mm x 133mm).
Leather a little rubbed to extremities. Some occasional foxing but generally pages clean; two pages showing some heavy tanning (see accompanying image) presumably due to having a slip of paper or letter being stored there; bottom edge of pages a little rough cut in places.
Overall, light wear but otherwise a very pleasing example of a Riviere binding – lovely.
