translated by Justin Huntly McCarthy
London: David Nutt, 1889
This copy one of 550 copies printed on small paper at The Chiswick Press; a further 60 copies were printed on large paper.
Nicely presented in a binding by Zaehnsdorf of London; signed to bottom edge of front free endpaper verso.
Hardback. Full leather with gilt decoration and leather title labels to spine; gilt rules to boards; gilt inner dentelles; page-block with all edges gilt; marbled endpapers. pp lxii, [i], clvi, colophon. Size: 6.5 x 4.25 inches approx. (168mm x 108mm).
Binding a touch worn and rubbed, especially to tail of spine at front board; light staining to front board; spine a little faded and discoloured. Owner inscription to first blank; occasional foxing and dustiness but generally pages very clean throughout.
Overall, showing some light wear but remaining a very nice copy – a handsome binding.
