The Holy Flower
H. Rider Haggard
Ward, Lock & Co. Limited, [reprint] circa 1932
An Alan Quartermain story originally serialised in The Windsor Magazine (December 1913 – November 1914), being published in book form by Ward, Lock & Co. (1915).
This copy a later reprint (circa 1932)* but without the Maurice Greiffenhagen illustrations from earlier printings. The dustwrapper artwork, whilst uncredited, appear to be coloured adaptations of the Greiffenhagen originals.
Hardback. Publisher’s green cloth with titles and decoration in black to spine and front board. In a dustwrapper with illustrations to spine and front panel; publisher’s list to rear panel and flap. 320pp. Size: 7.5 x 5.25 inches approx. (189mm x 129mm).
Dustwrapper a little worn and rubbed; short tears and wear to head of spine and lower corner of front panel/flap juncture; a little grubby/dusty in places with occasional foxing/spotting visible; verso age toned and spotted/foxed. Cloth clean and bright. Endpapers with age toning and offsetting; some heavy foxing/spotting to page edges and margins of first few and last few pages otherwise generally clean throughout.
Overall, a particularly nice, clean copy – very attractive in its dustwrapper.
