Tales from the Arabian Nights

with an introduction by E. O. Lorimer, illustrated by Gordon Nicoll
London: Humphrey Milford at Oxford University Press, 1st edition 1932

This edition with twelve tipped-in colour plates plus b/w chapter heading illustrations by Gordon Nicoll (1888-1959).

Presented in publisher’s pictorial slipcase.

Hardback. Publisher’s pale-blue cloth with silvered title and decoration to spine and front board; illustrated endpapers; silvered to top edge of page-block. In a dustwrapper and matching slipcase. 335pp including b/w illustrations and colour plates. Size: 9.5 x 7 inches approx. (237mm x 175mm).

Slipcase rubbed and worn, somewhat faded and foxed/age-toned. Dustwrapper lightly rubbed and worn; foxing and age-toning visible to front side, heavy offsetting/toning to verso. Covers generally clean and bright however some loss of colour (fugitive dye) to boards though still strong to spine; a touch bruised to tail of spine. Foxing/offsetting to endpapers; pages foxed throughout, quite significant in places though many pages are not affected; offsetting to text pages opposite plates; foxed/spotted to edges of page-block.

Overall, a very foxed example however as a whole the book presents very well indeed – very attractive.
