A volume in the New Naturalist series. This copy in a nice fine binding signed Hatchards of Piccadilly to front free endpaper verso. Binder unknown however the bookselling firm of Hatchards used a number of trade binderies for their work including Morrell and Bayntun*.
Hardback. Green half-leather over pale green cloth; raised bands to spine; gilt title, decoration and compartments to spine, gilt rules to boards; page-bock with top edge gilt; marbled endpapers. pp xxxi, 304, including b/w illustrations plus b/w and colour plates. Size: 8.5 x 6 inches approx. (219mm x 155mm).
A touch of light sunning to spine; cloth sunned and discoloured, some spotting. Pages tanned and with scattered foxing throughout however generally clean. Tanned and spotted/foxed to edges of page-block with some encroachment on to margins.
Overall, a handsome copy – very presentable indeed.
